Francis Roland has been selling fresh produce and flowers at the Arlington Farmers’ Market since its opening. As a fifth generation farmer, Francis continues to work the original family farmland. Roland Farms, located in Friendly, Maryland within Prince Georges County, consists of about twenty acres of growing fields. In addition, four greenhouses containing stock plants as well as seedlings are operated year-round. Perhaps one of the most appealing things about farming for Francis is the variety of tasks it offers, whether it be planting seeds, transplanting plants, or gathering vegetables.
Francis has always loved growing things and finds it especially rewarding when customers compliment him on produce purchased from his stand. In fact, Francis considers these compliments part of the “pay” for his efforts. In an effort to please patrons as well as to offer himself a challenge, Francis is always looking for new and improved varieties of produce to grow. Francis also serves as the Arlington Farmers’ Market Manager.
